Hammer Attack, Slashing Leave Victims Hospitalized In 2 Separate Dutchess County Incidents

Authorities are investigating two violent assaults that occurred in Dutchess County on the same day, leaving two men injured, police said.

The first attack happened on Wednesday, March 5, around 8 a.m., when officers responded to a report of an assault involving a hammer on Rinaldi Boulevard in the City of Poughkeepsie, the city's police department announced on Friday, March 7. 

Upon arrival, they found a 45-year-old man suffering from head injuries caused by blunt force trauma. The victim was rushed to a local hospital for treatment. 

Hours later, at 7:41 p.m., a slashing was reported on Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie. Officers arrived to find a 59-year-old man who had sustained a serious slash wound to the face. He was also taken to a hospital for medical care.

Both incidents remain under active investigation.
